Summary of the book ‘A Time to Kill: A Jake Brigance Novel: 1’:

The story takes place in the fictional town of Clanton in 1980. A ten-year-old black girl (Tonya) was brutally raped and beaten by two white men. Later her father Carl Lee Hailey took her to the hospital. Carl Lee Hailey was so distraught and outraged that he decided to kill those two culprits. He asked for help from his friend Jake Brigance, a white attorney who had previously represented Hailey’s brother. Hailey takes justice into his own hands and for ten days burning crosses and the crack of sniper fire spread through the streets of Clanton. The nation sits spellbound as defense attorney Jake Brigance struggles to save his client’s life and later his own.

About the Author

John Grisham is an American novelist, attorney, politician, activist and who wrote twenty-five novels. His recent work is ‘The Racketeer; one work of nonfiction; a collection of stories; and a series for young readers’. He is also the chairman of the board of directors of the Mississippi Innocence Project. He also received the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction. Grisham lives in Virginia and Mississippi, and is popular or his legal thrillers.
