Price Hike of Steel Manufacturers

Post lockdown, steel prices maintained an uptrend. From 1st December onwards Indian steel mills raised steel prices by around Rs 2000-2500 per tone. JSW Steel and JSPL hiked prices by Rs 2,500 – Rs 2,700 per tonne and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) hiked by around Rs 2,500 – Rs 2,750 per tonne effective from the date. This increase in prices however brews discontent among raw material industries.

Shanghai-Based Company Gets Contract Worth Rs 1,126 Crore for Delhi-Meerut Rail Tunnel

Amidst India-China standoff in Ladakh, Chinese MNC Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company Limited (STEC) receives a contract in Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System corridor by the National Capital Region Transport (NCRTC). Asian Development Bank will provide the funds to this project, whose guidelines allow all member countries to participate in the bidding. The Shanghai-based firm which was the lowest bidder won the contract to build the 5.6-kilometre underground stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Sahibabad.

India Assumed UN Security Council Membership for Eighth Time

The nation India along with four other countries joined the UN Security Council (UNSC) on 4th January 2021. The country assumed the membership for eighth time. Mexico, Ireland, Norway and Kenya along with India hold the non-permanent seats in the council for two years. US, China, Russia, Britain and France are the permanent members and hold veto power.

UP Government to Launch Kisan Kalyan Mission

Uttar Pradesh government is going to launch Kisan Kalyan Mission on 6th January, 2021. Exhibition of agriculture and related sectors and other programs will be organized during this mission. The scheme will double the income of state’s farmers. Under this mission, government will also facilitate 100 progressive farmers from each district.

National Metrology Conclave: PM Laid Foundation Stone For National Environmental Standards Laboratory

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated National Metrology Conclave on 4th January 2021. During the conclave PM dedicated National Atomic Timescale and Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya Pranali (Certified Indian Reference Material Program) to the country. He also laid the foundation stone for National Environmental Standards Laboratory in the event. While addressing during the event, he said that Indian products should be accepted globally by ensuring customer satisfaction.

INDIA vs AUSTRALIA: KL Rahul Ruled Out of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Indian batsman KL Rahul ruled out of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.  Rahul injured his wrist while batting in the nets on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Moreover, he needed about three weeks’ time to recover completely and regain full strength. BCCI also stated that Rahul will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury.

Delhi Government to Set Up Tamil Academy

Delhi government recently announced that it is going to establish a Tamil Academy. The aim for establishing the academy is to protect the Tamil language and culture. Moreover, the Ex-Councilor N Raja will be the vice chairman of this Tamil Academy.

The newly created Tamil Academy will organise Tamil language classes and give new awards. It also organise cultural events to promote and recognise literary works in Tamil. Tamil was the first language to be classified as a classical language in India. It is also the official language of Tamil Nadu.

To Keep White House, We’ll ‘Fight Like Hell’: Donald Trump

In north Georgia US President Donald Trump is urging Republican voters to turn out and vote in Tuesday’s special election. The election will determine which party controls the Senate. Moreover, at a rally in Dalton, Trump said that the stakes in this election could not be higher. Trump also warned a boisterous crowd of several thousand supporters about Democrats winning control of the Senate.

Scotland to Enter Full Lockdown From Tuesday

From Tuesday onwards, people of Scotland legally required to stay at home, Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon said that. Some exceptions will be there for essential reasons to curb a renewed surge of coronavirus infections. Sturgeon also said that Scotland will be placed in lockdown for at least the whole of January. This is important to do so to ease the pressure on hospitals and intensive care units.

Under The new lockdown rules will be similar to those imposed during the first peak of the pandemic in spring.  People can go out for exercise but can only meet one other person from another household. School will remain shut until February except for children of key workers and children under social care.

Niraj Antani an Indian-American Sworn-In as Ohio Senator

Niraj Antani has sworn-in as Ohio’s senator, making him the first Indian-American to serve in the state’s Senate. From the 6th District, Mr Antani a 29 years old, elected to the Ohio state Senate. Mr Antani said that he is so grateful to represent the community in which he born and raised as a State Senator. Now, he will serve a full four-year term. Moreover, formerly Antani served as State Representative for the 42nd Ohio House District since 2014.

Mexico Approves AstraZeneca-Oxford Coronavirus Vaccine

On Monday, Mexico authorized the emergency use of coronavirus vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. Deputy health minister tweeted that Mexican regulators had approved the vaccine. He also said that vaccine could be available in March. It is the second coronavirus vaccine authorized by Mexico, after began a mass immunization program using the Pfizer-BioNTech shot.
