PM Narendra Modi Get Vaccinated
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi received first dose of Covid vaccine on 1st March, 2021 under the country’s second round of vaccination drive. PM was administered Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He also appealed to people who are eligible to take vaccine and contribute in making the country Covid-19 free. In the second phase of India’s vaccination campaign starting from March 1, shots will be given to senior citizens and people with comorbidities in the age group of 45 to 59. There is no fee of vaccination at government facilities while private centres will charge Rs 250 per dose.

National Science Day: Remembering C V Raman’s Discovery
Every year, India celebrates National Science Day on 28th February to mark the day when C V Raman discovered the Raman Effect. Dr Raman discovered Raman Effect in 1928 which helps the concept of scattering of light. He received Nobel Prize in 1930 for his discovery. The theme for this year’s National Science Day is ‘Future of STI: Impacts on Education, Skill and Work’.

ISRO launched Polar Satellites Launch Vehicle PSLV C51 in the first space venture of 2021. PSLV C51 carrying Brazil’s Amazonia-1 satellite and 18 co-passenger satellites took-off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on 28th February, 2021.

Sports Ministry Restores Recognition of Gymnastics Federation of India After 10 Years
The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has restored the recognition of the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) as the National Sports Federation (NSF) with immediate effect till December 31, 2021. The appointment of the office-bearers for the federation will be done through an election following the Model Election Guidelines which will be issued by the Ministry.
However, the Sports Ministry warned that this recognition is subject to withdrawal in case any of the terms and conditions regarding the recognitions are violated.
Vinesh Phogat Wins Gold in a Wrestling Tournament in Kyiv, Ukraine
On February 28, 2021, India’s Vinesh Phogat defeated Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus in the final. Consequently, she won a gold medal in women’s 53 kg freestyle at the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial tournament in Kiev/ Kyiv , Ukraine.
Deepak Kumar Wins Silver Medal in Boxing Tournament Held at Sofia, Bulgaria
Indian boxer Deepak Kumar’s stupendous run at the 72nd Strandja Memorial tournament ended with a silver medal in Sofia, Bulgaria. Before that he lost a fiercely-contested flyweight (52kg) final on February 27. Deepak, an Asian silver-winner, was up against Bulgaria’s Daniel Asenov, a two-time European championships gold-medallist. The bout also ended in a split verdict in favor of the local favorite.
Sarus Aajeevika Mela-2021 Starts at Noida Haat
The Narendra Singh Tomar-Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister has inaugurated the Saras Aajeevika Mela 2021 on February 26, 2021, at Noida Haat. More than 300 rural self-help groups and also craftsmen from 27 states have participated in the event.
Moreover, this platform provides rural SHG women to showcase their skills and sell their products. It also helps them to build their linkages with bulk buyers. Through the event, the rural SHG women will expose their skills at the vital national level that in turn help them to understand the demand and taste of the urban customers.
Legendary Hong Kong Actor Ng Man-tat Dies
On February 28, 2021, the iconic Hong Kong actor died of liver cancer at the age of 70. He was born in China’s Fujian province in 1951. Ng began his career when he was 19 years old with acting classes from Hong Kong’s TVB. Upon garnering experience in several film and television titles throughout the 70s and 80s, he received a recurring role in the adventure series ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes.’

Arizona Reports More Than 17,000 New Covid-19 Cases
On Sunday, Arizona has reported new Covid-19 cases over 17,000. It is the highest daily total since the start of the pandemic. The previous daily high, according to Johns Hopkins University’s dashboard was on December 8 with 12,314. Currently, there are 556,384 total cases in the state. However, the state did not report any deaths on Sunday.
Iran Hits 60,000 Virus Deaths and Bans 32 Nations
Iran has surpassed 60,000 coronavirus-related deaths. It is the latest grim milestone for the hardest-hit country in the Middle East. Consequently, on Sunday the Health Ministry reported 93 new deaths from COVID-19 and more than 8,000 new infections. Now, the total infection count is over 1.63 million in the country.
China Rolls Out Its First One-Jab Covid-19 Vaccine
China has given conditional approval for a single-dose Covid-19 vaccine. However, this single-shot vaccine could give a tough competition to Johnson & Johnson’s one-jab shot. China started its first Ad5-nCoV COVID-19 vaccination drive on Friday, according to the state-run Global Times. The Global Times also states that the country started its phase-1 clinical trials of the vaccine in March last year, making it the world’s first COVID-19 candidate vaccine that entered clinical trials.
