On Tuesday, India assured the United Nations (UN) that the country is making sufficient efforts that are needed for attaining sustainable agri-food systems targets. India also showed confidence that it will continue its efforts and soon achieve the targets set in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While addressing a virtual conference of the UN Food Systems Summit on ‘Transforming Food Systems for Achieving the SDGs: Rising to the Challenge’, the Agriculture Minister said that India has taken several steps to transform the country’s agri-food systems into sustainable systems.

Puri is India’s First City to have ‘Drink from Tap Project’
Puri, a city in Odisha now becomes the first city in India to have a Drink from Tap project on July 26, 2021,. The city will now dispense safe hygienic drinking water directly from a tap 24×7. Chief Minister of the state, Naveen Patnaik has launched the project named ‘Sujal: Drink from Tap’. He shared this news by tweeting on a social media platform and also told us that this project is the model of the 5T initiative.

Indian Union Minister for Women and Child Development has inaugurated a helpline number that will be activated for 24X7 to help the women who are facing sexual violence and harassment. The main objective behind launching this number is to improve the safety and security of women across the nation. The National Commission for Women’s helpline no- 7827170170 will provide online support to women by linking them with appropriate authorities such as police, District Legal Service Authority, hospitals, etc.

Priya Malik of India Bags Gold in World Cadet Wrestling Championships
At the World Cadet Wrestling Championships held in Hungary, Indian wrestler, Priya Malik has won the gold medal. She won the gold in women’s 73 kg weight category. Priya defeated Kseniya Patapovich of Hungary in the finals with a score of 5-0. In the year 2019, in both the events Khelo India games and 17th School Games, Priya also won the gold medal.
One City of Harappa in Kutch Became 40th Indian UNESCO’s World Heritage Site
Dholavira, a city of Harappan located in Kutch district of Gujarat, was inscribed on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites on Tuesday. After this, it became the first site of Indus Valley Civilisation in India to be included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list. The decision came days after the included the name of Kakatiya Rudreshwara temple in Telangana on the list.

Two Parks in Madrid Added to the UNSECO’s World Heritage List
Two parks in Madrid, Buen Retiro Park and Paseo del Prado, have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. After including these two parks, the total number of World Heritage Sites in Spain goes up to 49. The number of UNESCO sites in Spain makes it the third-highest country after Italy and China. Besides these two parks, no sites were located in Madrid that is included in the UNESCO list.
WHO Celebrates World Hepatitis Day 2021 on 28th July
With World Nature Conservation Day, World Hepatitis Day (WHD) is also celebrated every year on July 28. This day is being observed to raise awareness about viral hepatitis that is an inflammation of the liver and can cause severe liver disease and cancer. On this day, WHO will host a Global Talk Show that will provide a platform for leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders across the world to discuss action plans to eliminate hepatitis by 2030.
